Though small, our community is steeped in history. In the time of Edward the Confessor it belonged to Swein, and after the Conquest was included in the grant to the Lord of Tickhill, Roger de Busli. In the 12th century, High Melton was inherited by Avice-de-Tania. she erected the church at High Melton. From the 17th century, Melton Hall was the home of the Fountayne family, later the Montagus.
