Neighbourhood Plan

High Melton Parish Council is working to create a Neighbourhood Plan for our Village. A Neighbourhood Plan will look to give local people more say and influence the future planning of the area and so they reflect the needs and priorities of local people.
What is a Neighbourhood Plan
A Neighbourhood Plan is a way of helping local communities play a much stronger role in shaping the areas in which they live and work.
Once adopted, the Neighbourhood Plan forms part of the development plan and sits alongside the local plan prepared by the local planning authority (City of Doncaster Council). Decisions on planning applications will be made using both the local plan and the neighbourhood plan, and any other material considerations.
Why are your views important?
Your views are very important as this is an opportunity for local people, particularly those who have not yet been involved, to have more of a say in the future planning of High Melton, so they the needs and priorities of local people can be taking into account.
In particular the Parish Council wishes to:
- Support the strategic needs of the local plan
- Protect, manage and enhance the quality of the rural landscape especially the green belt and to consider the protections that may be required for valued green spaces, and
- Enhance the quality of life for parish residents
- Delivery the Neighbourhood Plan at zero cost to residents wherever possible.
We have started the process, notifying the City of Doncaster Council of the Parish Council’s application to be a designated neighbourhood area in March 2024 and a working group has been set up to drive the work with the residents of High Melton on a Neighbourhood Plan.

A draft working version of the Neighbourhood Plan is available to view below. Please note that this document is still under development and has not yet reached the formal consultation stage. When the document is finalised there will be announcements of further opportunities for public engagement when the plan progresses to the next stage.
